Prince William Symphony Orchestra
OUR PRIMARY EDUCATIONAL GOAL is to get families and children into the concert hall. While in-school appearances can be enlightening and helpful (see the bulleted items below), most adults who have become lifetime listeners and supporters learned to appreciate music by attending concerts. Just as sports lovers take to the stadium (indeed they buy tickets in advance, fight traffic to get to the event, and relive it afterwards), music lovers belong in the concert hall!
FREE TICKETS AND USHERING. The PWSO's commitment to education and learning begins with our offer of free main stage concert tickets for every school child, teacher and staff person in the region. In addition, middle school and high school students may apply to serve as ushers. For this service, each usher may bring an adult of their choice to a concert, free of charge. _________________PWSO GOES BACK TO SCHOOL. Subject to funding allowances, the PWSO would like to take an active part in education, addressing ourselves particularly to music programs within the schools. While we cannot bring the entire orchestra to your school, we can interact with you in practical and direct ways. Please consider one of the three possibilities described below. All classroom and in-school programs require budget assistance.
- CLASSROOM ASSISTANCE. We want to practice with your students! Are you playing Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, or perhaps just working on scales? It doesn't matter. We'd like to join your young musicians for a rehearsal.
- IN-SCHOOL PERFORMANCES. Our traveling group is a small Baroque orchestra, and we would be happy to come to your school. We can play for you, interact with your students, and perhaps even accompany some of your soloists.
- PRIVATE COACHING. Do you have a student who might benefit from some in-depth coaching, and who otherwise might not have the means or the opportunity to receive such attention? Let us talk over the situation and see if we can help.
